The documentary "Novaya Zemlya. Diving into the unknown" is nominated for a geographical Oscar - “Crystal Compass” award in the nomination "The best coverage in the media". This is the result of the joint work of the Russian Geographical Society and the "My Planet" channel.
"Novaya Zemlya. Diving into the unknown" is about scientists of the White Sea Biological Station of Moscow State University, who take a difficult trip on a specialized research ship to the west coast of the Novaya Zemlya archipelago. Their task is to conduct dives in the Barents Sea for the first time in history and explore the flora and fauna in these Arctic waters.
The main goal of the film authors was to popularize the geographical, historical and cultural heritage of Russia as an object of national pride; the formation and direction of a public initiative for a comprehensive study and a deep understanding of the geographical, ethnocultural and historical identity of Russia.
This year over 240 projects from 15 countries of the world, including Australia, the USA, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Ireland and others were nominated for the “geographical Oscar”. Representatives of 59 regions are among the Russian participants.
